Message from the President
"The world is changing rapidly and ICAEW, as a leader of the global accountancy profession, must continue to evolve to keep pace. Our updated strategy builds on our past achievements but also reflects the many changes that have taken place over the past five years, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Crucially, Direction 2030 has been shaped by insights from our members recognising that, while we must lead, their continued involvement is vital to our future and our future is vital to their success. I thank everybody who has been involved in our strategy review and hope they are as excited by it as we are."

ICAEW Member Survey results
In the second half of 2024, as part of a comprehensive review of our membership, we invited all ICAEW members to take part in a survey on the perceived value and benefits members derive from their ICAEW membership, as well as member opinions on future priorities for ICAEW. Completed by almost 6,000 members (representing 4% of our contactable membership), this report summarises the analysis and results of that survey.
145th Anniversary of ICAEW
Since the Royal Charter was granted by Queen Victoria in 1880, we have consistently acted in the public interest. From the start we have set rigorous standards in education and ethics, distinguishing chartered accountants as trusted professionals. The value of our contributions to company and bankruptcy law reform, the evolution of tax legislation and development of international accounting standards have all had a lasting impact.
Throughout two world wars, our members took on critical roles in government, industry and reconstruction. In the post-war years and into the 21st century, our leadership in areas like ethical guidance, audit reform, corporate governance and sustainability, have cemented our role as a force for positive change internationally — championing transparency, accountability and sound financial management.
This legacy is the foundation for our new strategy, extending our influence into a new era where trust, integrity and innovation are more essential than ever.
